Pamela Rix born 1834 at Great Witchingham was recorded in the 1851 census living with her mother Mary Rix, born 1808, and her siblings Charlotte, b. 1835, Henry,b. 1837, Cecilia, b. 1841, William, b. 1846, and Alfred, b.1848. Mary Rix and her daughter Pamela were described in the 1851 census as "washerwomen and agricultural labourers".

Pamela married Robert Lillystone in 1853 in St.Faiths and they had a son, Robert, who was born in 1859.

The 1861 census records Pamela, a widow, and her son, living with her mother Mary.

The 1871 census shows Pamela, a widow, with her son Robert and daughter Mary Lillystone, living with her mother.

He daughter Mary was born on 28 October 1863 at Lenwade, Norfolk in the Registration District of Mitford. Her birth however was registered a month later in the adjoining Registration District of St. Faiths where Pamela gave her name as "Pamela Lillestone formerly Rix" but did not give the father's name - clearly he could not have been Robert Lillystone.

Pamela went on to marry Charles Clitheroe in 1878.

The 1861 census records Pamela, a widow, and her son, living with her mother Mary.

The 1871 census records Pamela, a widow, her son Robert, and her daughter Mary Lillystone, living with her mother Mary Rix.

Her daughter Mary was born on 28 October 1863 at Lenwade, Norfolk in the Registration District of Mitford. Her birth however was registered a month later in the adjoining Registration District of St. Faiths, which includes Great Witchingham, where Pamela gave her name as "Pamela Lillestone formerly Rix" but did not give the father's name. Clearly he could not have been Robert Lilystone.

Pamela went on to marry Charles Clitheroe in 1878.

In 1881 Mary Rix was still living in Great Witchingham, "in receipt of parish charity". Her grand daughter, Cecilia White, was an assistant school teacher. Henry Rix was then a police Sergeant at Heigham, (George Eglin was a constable there at the same time).

In 1881 Mary Lilystone was recorded as "daughter" living with Charles and Pamela Clitheroe in North Elmham. When she married in 1883, Mary's father was not named.

Mary is buried at St. George's Church, South Moor where the font cover is dedicated to her memory.

Pamela's brother, and Mary's uncle, Alfred Rix, moved to Co. Durham and in 1881 is recorded living in New Kyo and in 1901 at Oxhill.

Pamela's son Robert Lilystone, Mary's half brother, was living in Norwich in 1881.

The 1891 census records John and Mary living at Maiden Law Cottage, Lanchester, Co. Durham with Robert, Cecelia, Pamela and Maria. John's brother Alfred was living with them as a lodger. John and Alfred were described as collliery labourers.

John had moved to Co. Durham about 1890 with his wife and 3 children. For a young couple with 3 children to move from rural Norfolk to the coal mines of Durham must have taken great courage and determination, possibly out of desparation in a farming depression.

They moved house several times - in 1895 they are recorded at 34 Pine Street, South Moor - they were stilll there in 1904 - in 1918 they were at 39 Lime Street, South Moor - in 1925 they were at 6 Langley View, Annfield Plain.
